Near Golden, Reverends Ridge Campground carries the state park standard: solid loops, real infrastructure, big reservation demand. It sits about 25 miles west of downtown Denver as the crow flies, with Golden as the nearest supply town on our board.

Getting there is the easy part: the run points up the I-70 mountain corridor and it's close enough that an after-work Friday start still lands you at camp in daylight. Traffic is the only variable that matters this close in, so mind the metro rush windows and the trip stays painless.

At about 9,728 feet, this is true high country camping. The season runs short, roughly late spring through September, and nights stay cold all summer. Pack for frost in July, and make sure the furnace in your rental is one we vouch for.

Hookup-wise, Colorado state parks are the best-equipped public camping in the region, and many loops here offer electric or full hookups. Those sites disappear first when the booking window opens, so grab them the same morning if your rig or your crew depends on power. Water and dump stations round out the infrastructure.

Reservations run through Colorado Parks and Wildlife, bookable up to six months ahead. State parks carry the best hookup infrastructure in Colorado, so the full hookup loops go first. A daily vehicle pass or annual parks pass rides on top of the site fee.

From the Denver metro, plan on it as a close-in trip: it sits inside the delivery radius quoted on many of our listings, so a trailer can be waiting at your site before you leave work.
