Who Rents a Class A

Driving One, With No License Drama
Colorado lets you drive these on a standard license. Legality isn't the hurdle. Height and habit are. You're piloting something around 12 feet tall and up to 40 feet long, so gas station canopies, drive-throughs and tree lined loops all become geometry problems. The actual driving is calmer than people fear: sit high, take corners wide and late, and use the tow-haul mode on descents so the transmission does the braking.
Mountain rule
Downshift before the grade, not during it. I-70 westbound gives you miles of warning before every climb and every drop. Read the signs, pick the gear, and let the engine hold you back on the way down.
Gas or Diesel, and Generators
Most rentals this size are gas coaches, which handle the Front Range fine with patience on the passes. Diesel pushers climb stronger and run quieter up front, at a higher nightly rate. Either way, ask about generator rules. Boondocking a football lot is exactly what the generator is for. Quiet hours at state parks are exactly what it isn't.
Costs and the Honest Math
This is the premium tier of the market, and fuel is part of the budget: expect single digit miles per gallon towing altitude into a headwind. Compare the total against two hotel rooms, restaurant meals and a rental car for the same loop, and the math gets fair quickly for groups of four or more.

Do I need a special license for a Class A in Colorado?
No. A standard driver's license covers the motorhomes listed here for personal use. What we screen for is comfort and a clean driving record, and a few minutes of coaching at pickup covers the rest.
Can I tow my car behind it?
Some listings allow a tow dolly or flat tow and some don't, and the equipment has to match the rig's setup. Ask us before booking. Plenty of renters skip it and use the coach for everything, planning fuel and parking stops accordingly.
Where can I park a 35 foot motorhome overnight near Denver?
