Eagles Nest Wilderness
Breckenridge, Colorado · Federal campground · books through recreation.gov, on a rolling reservation window.

Eagles Nest Wilderness is a federal campground near Breckenridge, Colorado, run under federal land management. It sits about 67 miles west of downtown Denver as the crow flies, with Breckenridge as the nearest supply town on our board.
Campers rate it 4.5 of 5 across 11 reviews on RVParks.us, our sister directory, where the photo sets and firsthand reports live.
The drive from the metro heads up the I-70 mountain corridor. Fuel up before you leave town, since close-in prices beat every mountain and small-town pump, and build in a margin for summer weekend traffic on the way back. As Colorado camping runs go, this one earns its drive time.
At about 12,572 feet, this is true high country camping. The season runs short, roughly late spring through September, and nights stay cold all summer. Pack for frost in July, and make sure the furnace in your rental is one we vouch for.
Set expectations before you pack: federal campgrounds mostly run dry, meaning no hookups at the site. Arrive with full fresh tanks and charged batteries, know your generator's posted hours, and plan tank capacity around the length of the stay. The rigs in our fleet list tank sizes plainly, and we'll match you to one that can go the distance off-grid.
Booking a Site Here
Sites here book through recreation.gov on a rolling window, and summer weekends vanish within minutes of opening. Set a calendar reminder for the morning your window releases and be logged in early. First come first served loops, where they exist, fill by Friday noon in July.
Pairing It With a Camper
From the Denver metro this is an easy launch either way: pick the camper up in town and you're backing in with daylight left, or have our crew quote the haul using the listing's radius and fee. Reserve the site in your own name first, then match the rig to the pad length and hookups. Our camper listings state length, tanks and power draw plainly, and we answer campground fit questions all day.

What Campers Say
★★★★★Beautiful wilderness area. We did the Meadow Lake Trail to Lily Pad lake in late September. The changing aspens were gorgeous. The trail was pretty active so we had to move to the side frequently to let other groups by, but that's expected for an easy trail with beautiful views near town.
★★★★★Really fun area to hike with my wife. Weather was perfect in August and views were spectacular. Hike was switchback and semi steep but very much doable. Would highly recommend.
★★★★★Amazing 3 day backpacking trip in the northern section near Elliots Ridge and Peak C. Great weather, but the mosquitoes definitely were not heeding the deet. Many great hikes that can be easy or difficult with off-trail hikes and passes begging to be explored.
