Gore Creek Campground is a federal campground near Vail, Colorado, run under White River National Forest. It sits about 69 miles west of downtown Denver as the crow flies, with Vail as the nearest supply town on our board.

Campers rate it 4.7 of 5 across 156 reviews on RVParks.us, our sister directory, where the photo sets and firsthand reports live.

The drive from the metro heads up the I-70 mountain corridor. Fuel up before you leave town, since close-in prices beat every mountain and small-town pump, and build in a margin for summer weekend traffic on the way back. As Colorado camping runs go, this one earns its drive time.

It sits near 8,787 feet, high enough that summer nights drop hard after sunset. Shoulder season here is gorgeous and lightly booked; just confirm the operating dates before a spring or fall trip.

Set expectations before you pack: federal campgrounds mostly run dry, meaning no hookups at the site. Arrive with full fresh tanks and charged batteries, know your generator's posted hours, and plan tank capacity around the length of the stay. The rigs in our fleet list tank sizes plainly, and we'll match you to one that can go the distance off-grid.

Booking a Site Here

Sites here book through recreation.gov on a rolling window, and summer weekends vanish within minutes of opening. Set a calendar reminder for the morning your window releases and be logged in early. First come first served loops, where they exist, fill by Friday noon in July.

Pairing It With a Camper

From the Denver metro this is an easy launch either way: pick the camper up in town and you're backing in with daylight left, or have our crew quote the haul using the listing's radius and fee. Reserve the site in your own name first, then match the rig to the pad length and hookups. Our camper listings state length, tanks and power draw plainly, and we answer campground fit questions all day.

What Campers Say

★★★★★

The camp host at Gore Creek Campground was terrific friendly, helpful, attentive and The bathrooms were so clean there was paper. There was a garbage can that had been tented and there was plenty of hand sanitizer very clean very appreciated. This guy is terrific.

★★★★☆

Great location. The campsites are spacious and feel private. Great bear boxes. The pit toilets might be some of the cleanest I've ever seen. The staff is also very friendly. Site 11 is close to the river which is nice but the site itself isn't very level and it was hard to find a spot for our tent.

★★★★★

Gorgeous campground 10 minutes from Vail. Enjoy the sound of the creek (and a little highway noise) at one of their fairly secluded sites. Pictured, is site 23. Note that sites 20-25 do require a short hike in. Level tent area, picnic table, fire pit, and bear proof box provided at each.
